Testing Accommodations
For students seeking accommodations on GED exams, the following should be considered based on a valid diagnosis of LD and the judgment of a psychologist or physician:
· Extended time on the GED exam to compensate for processing deficits
· Private room to minimize distraction
· Use of a calculator for both portions of math exam, if dyscalculia is confirmed
· Other accommodations as indicated for individual candidates
Whoever completes the assessment needs to complete the "Request for Testing Accommodations – Learning and Other Cognitive Disabilities” form. The form is available by clicking on the GED section link below with a request for testing accommodations the professional deems appropriate. If a student has been previously diagnosed or had an IEP while in school and can provide documentation that is within the last 5 years, the ABE teacher can act as their advocate and complete the Request for Testing Accommodation form on the student’s behalf. See CASAS, TABE or GED Chapters under the “Testing” tab for additional information.
